KIOSK COOLING

Kiosk Cooling:

kiosk cooling   kiosk cooler
A company specializing in fleet management and motor pool software required multiple outdoor, self service kiosks to be placed in various environments throughout the USA. TECA’s AHP-470XEHC thermoelectric air conditioner is an ideal solution, providing needed cooling to sensitive parts within the sun-exposed kiosk. The AHP-470XEHC air conditioner cools the kiosk without taking up much space and it is suitable for various environments including NEMA-4 enclosures. Heat/Cool is optional, as are external covers for aesthetic purposes.

Whether space is restricted inside or outside your kiosk, TECA offers three mounting styles for kiosk cooling: Through, Internal and External.

OUTDOOR KIOSK COOLING

Outdoor Kiosk Cooling:

TECA Model AHP-1200XE air conditioners cool over 30 outdoor electronic information kiosks in dozens of State Parks in the U.S. Our customer launched the first electronic interpretive information program specifically designed for visitors to a State Park system by implementing the kiosks.

This award-winning project has received significant attention across the country and TECA is proud to be part of it. The AHP-1200XE can be customized to fit your kiosk’s needs.

Mounting
Mounting:

TECA’s FHP thermoelectric air conditioners are designed to mount on the outside of the enclosure. There is no intrusion within the enclosure allowing for greater design flexibility. A mounting plate provides for easy installation.

Side, Front, or Back Mounting:
This mounting orientation is recommended for applications with high humidity or incomplete cabinet seals. Condensation can be removed via moisture collection systems (standard on FHP-units and AHP-1400) or a drip pan positioned below the cold side fins. Drip pans are optional for thru mount style units.

Top Mounting: It is difficult to collect condensation in this orientation due to fin orientation and gravity. If a drip pan is employed by the end user, use caution to place the pan far enough away from the internal fan to minimize the restriction of air flow. The pan should cover the fin ends as well as the fan area. When there is a choice, side orientation is preferred by most users in high humidity environments.

Condensation
Condensation may form on the cold side fins when the surface temperature goes below the dew point temperature. To reduce the possibility of condensation or to transfer condensate to the outside of the enclosure consider the following:

  • Regulate the fin temperature above the dew point. Equations are provided for this purpose
  • Use desiccant (moisture absorbing granules)
  • Employ condensate removal system or drip pans

FHP-Series and models AHP-1400, AHP-1501 Air Conditioners contain built-in condensate removal systems. The condensate system consists of an anti-fungal sponge with a condensate wick. PVC tubing is also provided for drainage. The wick should extend below the cooling assembly to allow for a gravity feed.

Reliability
TECA Model AHP1200XHC

MTBF calculation was made using Telcordia SR-332, Method II.

Mean time between failures prediction ranges from 80,000 hours for ground benign, outdoor, 25C environment to 47,700 hours for ground mobile, outdoor, 70C environment.

On this website under “APPLICATIONS“, please also see the ongoing test of TECA Model AHP1800XEHC which has been in continuous service for over 80,000 hours outdoors on the roof. There is also a picture and description of a TECA Model AHP1200X with 120,000 hours of duty with no problems other than dirt!

WIND TURBINE APPLICATION

Wind Turbine:

wind turbine

The applications for AHP-1802XE’s are Vestas wind turbines, one located in Greece and one in the south of Japan.

“We are installing sensitive measurement equipment, and need to control the inside temperature of the measurement panel. One panel is in each of the rotors in the hub and the two others are in the nacelles (rotating and non rotating). We have just decided to make the two panels into one in the nacelle (where the panel in not rotating).”

AERONAUTICS

Aeronautics:

aeronautics

A leading military and aeronautics contractor needed a cooling solution for an enclosure which would be on a high altitude vessel. The system would be exposed to high winds and ambient elements present in the altitude.

Working with the customer; TECA sales and engineering team designed a cooling solution with specific intake and exhaust characteristics along with custom paint and finish process that could withstand the conditions it will be exposed to.

ANALYZER COOLING, HARSH ENVIRONMENT

Analyzer Cooling, Harsh Environment:

analyzer cooling

TECA’s Model AHP-1202XEHC Thermoelectric Air Conditioner provides accurate heating and cooling for the customer’s analysis machine. The environment is harsh: it is in a cement plant.

The customer’s product quickly analyzes composition of raw materials, allowing for increased productivity. TECA’s AHP-1202XEHC provides reliable thermal management within a harsh environment. The AHP-1202XEHC has an industrial grade sealed fan and sealed hot side components, allowing for frequent wash down (NEMA-4).

The solid-state construction is the perfect low-maintenance solution for hard-to-access areas. There are no filters to change and no moving parts except for the fans.

TECA air conditioners use robust thermoelectric modules and boast a long service life.

AVIONICS MAINTENANCE

Avionics Maintenance:

avionics maintenance

The task was to create a portable cooling system for diagnostic equipment to allow troubleshooting of avionics systems while still installed. Troubleshooting and diagnosing avionics problems is hard enough on the bench.

To save valuable time, technicians would rather get it done while the electronics are still in the aircraft. Also, under harsh environments, it is difficult to keep cutting edge electronics functioning the way they should. When it came to the type of portable cooling for the diagnostic equipment required for these jobs; a navy contractor came to TECA for the solution.

We helped design and build the solution shown in its prototype form around the portable enclosure. TECA completed the project on a tight schedule, which called for teamwork and attention to detail.

TESTING MATERIALS PROPERTIES

Testing Material Properties:

testing material properties

A materials scientist at a state university used TECA’s AHP-1200CPV to conduct published research. The researchers built a thermal fatigue chamber using the AHP-1200CPV.

A 2mm-thick specimen was sandwiched between two laboratory-built hot plates. The hot temperatures were as high as 400 °C.  The AHP-1200CPV cold plate cooled the researchers’ load to 30 °C. Our customer reports that he was able to maintain the 30 °C temperature within +/- 2 °C.

OEM LABORATORY EQUIPMENT

As a component in an OEM laboratory chamber, the AHP-150CP condenses out moisture to control humidity. The chamber is primarily used in hospital laboratories. The small size of the AHP-150CP helped reduce the footprint of the chamber and helped increase the work space within the chamber.

The AHP-150CP is maintenance free and the reliability of its thermoelectric cooling technology made our smallest cold plate the perfect OEM solution for this customer.

The AHP-150CP has been replaced by a newer and more efficient model the AHP-250CP series.
