Low Temperature, Low Price

Introducing TECA’s newest cold plate product, the AHP-301CAS:

What is a cascaded cold plate? It is a system of multiple layers- each cascade layer acts as a heat sink for the layer above it. This creates colder temperatures at the top layer, colder than what could be accomplished with a single cold plate. TECA has introduced a new product to its stable of cascaded cold plate systems. The AHP-301CAS is a two-stage cascade system and in a 25degC Ambient environment, the AHP-301CAS can reach as low as -35degC.

For even lower temperatures, TECA has long offered larger 2-stage and 3-stage cascaded systems. However, we recognized a need for a simpler, less expensive cascade solution. Some industrial and laboratory applications do not require as low as -76degC below delta-T for example (see model AHP-1200C31). Our standard single cold plates can reach a range of -10 to -15degC. The new AHP-301CAS is a ‘goldilocks’ cascade system; colder than usual but not more than is needed. The AHP-301CAS is priced 20% less than the next larger cascade and is half the price of our most powerful cascaded system.

Controlled Temperature Cycling in a Research Lab

Direct contact cooling 65°C below ambient:

controlled temperature cyclingA large state university in the U.S. has been using a collection of several TECA Model AHP-1200CAS Cascaded Cold/Hot Plates for years, to perform various research on the characteristics of cement paste samples.

In a cascaded system, the thermoelectric element acts as a heat sink for the element above it. Therefore, the more “stages” there are, the colder the top-most stage becomes. The research team which provided this photo successfully ran temperature profiles such as: from -20° to +24°C, and +23° down to -40°. This consistent accuracy and reliability of TECA Cold/Hot Plate products are a smart addition to any lab needing plug-and-play benchtop cooling or heating.

All Laboratory-Style TECA Cold/Hot Plates include an integral temperature controller and tecaLOG communications software. Versatile accessories are available such as cutting surfaces for grossing, barriers for lab animals, and more. The possibilities are endless. Where Are All the Cold Plates?

Cooling micro-organisms in a lab:

Recently, a prestigious U.S. university’s research lab contacted TECA. The team needed to cool a 340-well micro plate. Their vendors had many hot plates to offer, but no one seemed to offer a like product for cooling. The lab team was happy to discover TECA products online and the AHP-301CPV proved to be the right fit.

The lab’s 340-well plate is filled with a solution housing micro-organisms. To get the organisms to migrate to the bottom of the wells, the lab needed controlled cooling to 0degC. However, there is a limited temperature range in which the organisms do not degrade so precise control was paramount.

Freeze Tape Casting

Freeze Tape Casting Manufacturer:

A materials science company specializes in creating foams with specific porosity for use in electric vehicles, batteries, thermal interface materials and ceramic-metal interfaces. Utilizing a TECA thermoelectric cold plate as a component within the freeze tape caster ensures the manufacturing process remains environmentally friendly. Peltier cold plates use no freon, coolants, or chemicals of any kind. In this example, the customer has slightly modified a commercially-available, off-the-shelf (COTS) TECA cold plate to reach the desired -10C set point.

THERMAL GRADIENT BAR

Thermal Gradient Bar:

thermal gradient bar

The gradient plate shown is not TECA’s. It’s from a University. They had been running a hot plate on one end and a liquid cooled LHP-300CP with the plate in the evaluation of temperature preference in insects.

They needed better control and a wider temperature range and they wanted it on their existing plate. Many tests were run with the AHP-301CPV (shown) and the AHP-1200CPV to evaluate temperature uniformity and differential.

More and more researchers are looking into the versatile CPV line of cold plates to improve their tests with the CPV line of products and accessories. Call us. Maybe we can help you too.

PHARMACEUTICAL LABORATORY

Pharmaceutical Laboratory:

Keeping drugs cool on the bench

pharmaceutical laboratory

A private biopharmaceutical company formulates drugs that are sensitive to temperature. TECA Model AHP-1200 CPV is their perfect benchtop cooling solution. The customer uses the AHP-1200 CPV Cold Plate in combination with the customer’s own aluminum blocks to keep solutions at 0C during filtration and vial filling operations.

The customer reports, “We have been very satisfied”. This customer provided photo is a wonderful example of the versatility of TECA’s line of Laboratory Cold/Hot Plates. The plate surfaces are appropriately sized to accept microtiter plates and other lab accessories. The temperature can be read from either the plate surface or anywhere a remote sensor can be placed, via the Remote Sensibility™ feature.

HAIR REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE

Hair Transplant Procedure, Follicular Unit Transplant/Extraction (FUT/FUE):

hair transplant procedure

A group of physicians pioneered a hair replacement procedure using TECA’s AHP-1200CPV Cold/Hot Plate. The AHP-1200CPV is a Peltier cold plate. In the photo provided by TECA’s customer, the cold plate keeps hair transplant grafts cool in a solution during the patient’s procedure. The convenience of the AHP-1200CPV cold plate’s built-in temperature controller allows the technician to easily program it to maintain the desired set point.

The AHP-1200CPV is capable of reaching temperatures as low as -15 °C. In the photos here, the set point is programmed to 5 °C. The AHP-1200CPV has an integral universal power supply, so it can be used with any input voltage range from 100 to 240 VAC.
