Liquid Cooled Cold Plate

Newest Liquid Cooled Cold/Hot Plate LHP-1800CPV:

Liquid Cooled cold/hot plates have the freedom from the noise and vibration of fans. Water works as the coolant, carrying heat away from the cold plate source. TECA’s newest liquid-cooled cold/hot plate is also its largest. The LHP-1800CPV features a 15.2” X 19.2” footprint and a range from -30C to +130C (high temperature version). A water source is required. The LHP-1800CPV is ideal when powerful cooling is needed in a small footprint.

Coldest Liquid Cooled Plate Updated with PWM Temperature Controller

TECA’s liquid cooled cold/hot plates, the LHP-1200CPV (single stage) and LHP-1200CAS (two and three stage cascade system) are recently updated to include a new PWM temperature controller. It includes fan speed control which enables the Cold/Hot Plates to slow the fans automatically, reducing noise, as the unit reaches its set point. Another added benefit is that there are now four independent PID settings for different temperature ranges. USB communication port is included and Labview VI examples are available.

TEMPERATURE PREFERENCE TEST

Temperature Preference Test:

temperature preference

TECA’s model AHP-1200DCP consists of two adjacent thermoelectric heat/cool plates (dual zone cold plate).

In this example, the customer has added an optional Plexiglas barrier that allows the rat to easily move between the two surfaces. One plate was set at 30 ºC and the other plate was alternately set also to 30 ºC or to a different temperature. Animals spent time on each plate.

The customer studies whether rats/mice exhibit a significant, temperature-dependent avoidance of plates after injection of analgesic drugs.

Creating Microclimates for Insect Subjects

Using TECA’s Gradient Bar System, a biology department at a U.S. university created a temperature preference device for small insects.

The insects were infected with various pathogens. The researchers wanted to create an environment where the insects chose a temperature benefiting pathogen replication/transmission and not host survival, thus determining whether pathogens alter their hosts’ temperature preferences.

Insulating their petri dishes and setting the entire gradient machine inside a larger incubator, the researchers created a microclimate and had excellent control over temperature fluctuations.

BATTERY COOLING

R & D Battery Cooling:

In this example, the customer is using TECA’s AHP-1800CPV to keep a 60 pound lithium ion battery cool during R&D testing. This saves the customer the trouble of using a plate with pumped coolant to cool the battery, which was the original method.

The customer reports that upgrading to the TECA AHP-1800CPV “makes testing much easier”.

The AHP-1800CPV is the largest thermoelectric cold plate on the market with a plate surface area of 12.80 x 13.30 inches.  The large surface area and robust cooling power were ideal for this application.

COOLING ASPHALT SAMPLES

Cooling Asphalt Samples:

An oil refinery runs tests on asphalt samples at different temperatures.

TECA Model AHP-301CPV Cold Plate is currently being used during the course of the customer’s testing.

The customer says, “We have used this unit at different temperatures, and it has performed well. Thank you for your follow-up on the performance of this device.”

COOLING MOUNTING WAX

Cooling Mounting Wax:

A product design engineer at a medical device company needed a way to cool wax blocks holding film. The wax is printed directly onto the customer’s aluminum tray. Before discovering TECA products, the customer was placing the aluminum tray in a refrigerator and mechanically removing the wax by scraping it off with a metal blade.

TECA’s AHP-1200CP Cold Plate is a better solution. The customer is happy to have found an affordable cold plate to dedicate to his cooling task.

Please view the video provided by our customer to see how quickly and easily the wax is now removed (no more scraping!).

CHEMICAL WASTE TRANSPORT

Chemical Waste Transport:

chemical waste transport

Here’s an application that our engineering crew would love to put into greater use if they could figure out where and how. A specialty gas company called. They wanted to transfer toxic and corrosive liquids from big to small containers for lab use. The process had been taking several minutes with too much wasted product.

They knew because of the conditions a natural head pressure in the big container that they could use a cold plate to cool at the receiving vessel (Ø 1.5″ x 12″ bottle) to create a driving force which moves the fluid.

We didn’t go into the physics of this, we trusted what the customer said and worked with them. When they tried an AHP-1200CP it was fantastic. It turned 4 minutes and a lot of waste into no waste and 40 seconds.

SAMPLE COOLING IN CLEAN ROOM

Sample Cooling (Clean Room):

A research lab in Europe needed to stabilize the temperature of an acid solution within +-0.5 °C. TECA’s AHP-301CPV Cold/Hot Plate was the ideal solution due to its small footprint, versatile features and programmable temperature controller. The customer offered the following comments:

  • The AHP-301CPV is installed in our big clean room*. Here we fabricate our micro/nano devices for electronic and photonic applications.
  • we have now the possibility to do experiments at controlled temperatures and in a really wide range of temperatures. This allow us to increase the reproducibility of our results, which often are so dependent by Temperature.
  • AHP-301CPV keeps stable the temperature of an acid solution inside a beaker (max 6 or 7cm in diameter and max 10cm in height).
  • The possibility to program the temperature controller it’s really interesting, and it will be worthwhile for future experiments. (The customer is referring to the ability to program ramp & soak profiles)

TECA’s cold/hot plates are not specifically designed for clean room use however the customer determined this product would be suitable given the restrictions in this particular clean room.
