TACAN is a radio system which can provide aircrew with navigation and bearing information. A market leader in military solutions uses TECA Model AHP-1800XHC as a standard component to provide cooling to their mobile TACAN system. AHP-1800XHC is well designed for this type of application. For reliable performance under harsh conditions, we use military-grade sealed fans and components on the hot side (external to enclosure). The AHP-1800XHC heats and cools as needed without maintenance or repair down time. This has been crucial for our customer, who markets their mobile TACAN system as self-sufficient.

TECA Model AHP-1801XPHC-1 Thermoelectric Air Conditioner is used to enable the safe installation of a gas chromatography system into hazardous locations. Most installations are rated Class 1, Groups C & D, Division II. However in some cases the installations require Group B and/or Group A. TECA’s AHP-1801XPHC-1 maintains the interior of the Process Analyzer Enclosure at a control temperature of around 70o °F.  It meets the various requirements of all the installation environments.

This system is installed in Refining, Petrochemical, Upstream and other applications requiring the aforementioned safety ratings. Controlling the temperature of the equipment enclosure rather than the entire shelter allows for far more economical plant installations even in very cold or very hot environments.

“Simply protecting our Process Analyzer Enclosure from direct sunlight and precipitation is enough using the AHP-1801XPHC-1.  The TECA Air Conditioner has plenty of capacity to handle the most demanding environments such as the Texas Gulf Coast and even in Alberta, CA. See the actual plant installation picture where 3 Process Enclosures are shown. Maintain the temperature of a battery bank in a Class 1 Division 2 explosion proof environment to power portable communications equipment. A special purpose vehicle manufacturer needed to maintain the temperature of a bank of batteries to maintain maximum performance.

With our recommendation, the customer selected the TECA Model AHP-1800XP, because it is the only NEMA4X air conditioner available off-the-shelf, which is also certified for C1D2 use. The power source was able to meet the requirement of operation in a Class 1 Division 2 explosion proof environment, to support portable communications systems at car racing venues.

A custom design solution based on a standard thermoelectric air conditioner AHP-1801X was developed to meet European hazardous environment specification (ATEX) for a customer that was in need of such a system in a very short time.

The AHP-1802XPHC-2 met the customers need in an application where other similar products could not function due to extreme corrosive environment.

The TECA design team in a short notice was able to provide a solution based on a standard AHP-1800X thermoelectric air conditioner.

In the images shown here, TECA Model AHP-1800XE Thermoelectric Air Conditioner is being used successfully to cool electronics in an outdoor kiosk. The desert environment where the kiosk is located sees temperatures upwards of 110 F.

Outdoor kiosks are growing in popularity but typically require more from an active cooling system than their indoor counterparts. Outdoor kiosks have heat generating equipment like LCD screens and computers. In addition, there can be solar loads and high ambient temperatures to contend with. TECA offers many sizes of enclosure coolers for outdoor use, all utilizing low maintenance and reliable thermoelectric cooling technology.

Our customer raves about the results of this TECA-cooled kiosk, “I had not even one maintenance call. During the summer time the surface of the kiosk gets as high as 125 F, and the components were running cooler than the components in our indoor kiosks.”

The 2.4 Meter Mobile SATCOM Tactical Terminal (MSTT) is a lightweight, stand alone, trailer-mounted tri-band SATCOM terminal available to support worldwide, quick deployment satellite communications through military and commercial satellites.

It also uses a customized version of the solid state air conditioner AHP-1801X. It was designed and qualified for worldwide operation in tactical military environments.

WIND TURBINE APPLICATION

The applications for AHP-1802XE’s are Vestas wind turbines, one located in Greece and one in the south of Japan.

“We are installing sensitive measurement equipment, and need to control the inside temperature of the measurement panel. One panel is in each of the rotors in the hub and the two others are in the nacelles (rotating and non rotating). We have just decided to make the two panels into one in the nacelle (where the panel in not rotating).”

STEEL MILL

The steel company from Maryland had some enclosures with 4 drives each on some cranes. The high temperature in the steel mill was causing excessive shutdowns. Leaving the enclosure open in this sort of environment just wouldn’t do. Nor would conventional air conditioners survive the shake rattle and bake of the electrical enclosures on these FHP-1501XE 250VDC overhead cranes. On top of all that the only power they had was a widely varying 250 VDC. Which we found out later had some very nasty spikes which caused everyone a few headaches. But the headaches were cured and the customized FHP-1501XE solid state air conditioners continue to run.
