Cooling a NEMA-4 Enclosure with Precision

Cooling a NEMA-4 Enclosure with Precision:

Cooling a NEMA-4 Enclosure with Precision   Cooling Enclosure
A flow testing facility required precise heating and cooling of a NEMA-4 enclosure in an outdoor application. The customer’s NEMA-4 instrument box houses very sensitive transducers and data acquisition equipment.

TECA Model AHP-1200XEHC paired with the TC-3400 remote temperature controller protects the enclosure’s contents from extreme temperatures in the ambient. The customer can monitor and set the controller without opening the NEMA-4 enclosure. Custom programming achieves exact set points as specified by the customer. The sealed, industrial grade external fan allows for wash down of the enclosure and exposure to the outdoor environment, all while maintaining a closed loop system.

ATM KIOSK COOLING

ATM Kiosk Cooling:

TECA Model AHP-1200FFHC was chosen by our customer to provide thermal management to an ATM kiosk.

Electronics components often require cooling AND heating. The TECA cooler provides both heating and cooling to the kiosk. This ATM kiosk will be installed in dozens of locations with the TECA air conditioner, AHP-1200FFHC.

Thermoelectric technology is a reliable and low maintenance way to protect electronics. Utilizing the Peltier effect, TECA enclosure coolers (and heaters) do not require coolant, chemicals, compressor or filter.

KIOSK COOLING

Kiosk Cooling:

A company specializing in fleet management and motor pool software required multiple outdoor, self service kiosks to be placed in various environments throughout the USA. TECA’s AHP-470XEHC thermoelectric air conditioner is an ideal solution, providing needed cooling to sensitive parts within the sun-exposed kiosk. The AHP-470XEHC air conditioner cools the kiosk without taking up much space and it is suitable for various environments including NEMA-4 enclosures. Heat/Cool is optional, as are external covers for aesthetic purposes.

Whether space is restricted inside or outside your kiosk, TECA offers three mounting styles for kiosk cooling: Through, Internal and External.

OUTDOOR KIOSK COOLING

Outdoor Kiosk Cooling:

TECA Model AHP-1200XE air conditioners cool over 30 outdoor electronic information kiosks in dozens of State Parks in the U.S. Our customer launched the first electronic interpretive information program specifically designed for visitors to a State Park system by implementing the kiosks.

This award-winning project has received significant attention across the country and TECA is proud to be part of it. The AHP-1200XE can be customized to fit your kiosk’s needs.

TIGHT TEMPERATURE CONTROL

Tight Temperature Control Within Small Enclosure:

A manufacturer of specialty materials required cooling and heating of small enclosures. The system pictured here is used for the mixing of helium and hydrogen with dew point control.

TECA Model AHP-301FFHC is used with a TECA PID temperature controller to regulate the temperature of the enclosure in order to establish the moisture content of the “wet gas”, which is blended with dry gas to fix the dew point by way of the Buck Equation.

The customer is pleased with the results and continues to build more systems using TECA air conditioners and temperature controllers.

the AHP-301FF series is now replaced by newer model the AHP-401 series.

COMMUNICATIONS

Communications, Cooling Battery Bank:

communications communications

Maintain the temperature of a battery bank in a Class 1 Division 2 explosion proof environment to power portable communications equipment. A special purpose vehicle manufacturer needed to maintain the temperature of a bank of batteries to maintain maximum performance.

With our recommendation, the customer selected the TECA Model AHP-1800XP, because it is the only NEMA4X air conditioner available off-the-shelf, which is also certified for C1D2 use. The power source was able to meet the requirement of operation in a Class 1 Division 2 explosion proof environment, to support portable communications systems at car racing venues.

ROBOTICS

Robotics Application:

robotics

An industrial plant uses robots in its juicing and bottling process. The robots continuously overheat and shut off. The environment is dirty and 240 VAC is the only available input voltage.

TECA’s AHP-1801X Air Conditioner offers dual voltage capability and a rugged hot side fan that can handle NEMA-4X/Harsh Environment and corrosive environments. The customer is able to use the built-in temperature controller to keep his robots at a cool 25 °C.

MILITARY

Military Application:

military

The 2.4 Meter Mobile SATCOM Tactical Terminal (MSTT) is a lightweight, stand alone, trailer-mounted tri-band SATCOM terminal available to support worldwide, quick deployment satellite communications through military and commercial satellites.

It also uses a customized version of the solid state air conditioner AHP-1801X. It was designed and qualified for worldwide operation in tactical military environments.

Outdoor Electronics Enclosure Cooling:

Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) Test Outdoor Electronics Enclosure Cooling

TECA Model AHP-1800XEHC Thermoelectric Air Conditioner with heat and cool functions is installed on a rooftop enclosure in harsh conditions and exposed to extreme ambient temperatures. Testing for over 90,000 hours was successfully completed with no failures occurring on the AHP-1800XE enclosure cooler. This is a good example of the reliable nature of thermoelectric technology. Thermoelectric cooling is a good choice for enclosures that are in remote or hard-to-access places. There is very little maintenance required as it is a solid-state technology. The only moving parts are the fans.

The applications for AHP-1802XE’s are Vestas wind turbines, one located in Greece and one in the south of Japan.

“We are installing sensitive measurement equipment, and need to control the inside temperature of the measurement panel. One panel is in each of the rotors in the hub and the two others are in the nacelles (rotating and non rotating). We have just decided to make the two panels into one in the nacelle (where the panel in not rotating).”
